“How To Give It To God and Let It Go!”

"Is there something your hanging on to...that you need to let go of?"

Praise the Lord everyone! What is on my heart this month? Well we

have all heard the saying, “Give it to God!” And with that, some of us

do, other’s may not be sure how to give it to God, and learn to leave it

with Him. Over the years I have learned for some this is easy...for

other’s (who may have trust issues)...or may not have a strong enough

faith yet...struggle in the concept of letting go. So for this month, this

is what I want to encourage you with… “How to give it to God and let

it go!”

It’s hard to admit we have issues we don’t know how to handle. Even

when everything in us screams “Give it to God and let it go!” we just

don’t know how? Whether we’re confronted with a minor problem or

a punch in the gut, we’re conditioned to think we can solve it on our

own. But the truth is, we weren’t meant to. Difficult relationships,

strained finances, failing health, and a zillion other things are often

more than we can handle. But they’re not more than God can handle.

That’s why the Bible says God wants us to give everything to Him. Let

him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about

you and watching everything that concerns you.

1 Peter 5:6–7 (NKJV)

6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He

may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He

cares for you.

OVERCOME FEAR WITH FAITH!

Problems ignite fear in us. And rightly so. After all, we don’t have a

crystal ball to peer into to make sure everything will work out the way

we want them to. We know life is uncertain. We’re always at risk of

losing something or someone dear to us. And sometimes that can feel

downright scary. So, we hold onto our fragile lives with everything

we’ve got. As though we have the power to protect ourselves and the

ones we love from hurt, loss, or disappointment. We want to let go

and let God handle it, but nothing about that feels natural.

To be honest, giving our lives to God isn’t natural. That’s why it takes

supernatural faith.

HOW DO I FIND ENOUGH FAITH TO GIVE IT TO GOD

AND LET IT GO?

Supernatural faith is not reserved only for the saints

in the Bible. It’s available to every single child of

God! So faith comes from what is heard, and what is

heard comes through the message about Christ.

Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

17So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the

word of God.

Our faith grows as we read and study the Bible.

When life comes at us and we struggle to give it to

God and let it go, it’s because our fear is big and our

faith is small. That’s when we know it’s time to dig

into the Bible and allow God to increase our faith.

As we read the scriptures, the Holy Spirit teaches us

about Jesus. The more we know Him, the more we

trust Him. And as our faith in Him grows, our fears

diminish.

GIVING IT TO GOD MEANS GOING STRAIGHT TO

HIM!

For some, they may go to a friend, a family member,

a co-worker, a brother or sister in Christ, or even the

pastor (usually last). But for some, the whole idea of

going directly to God, isn’t always that easy. I re-

member when my daughter Trinity was young, and

she was going through something I told her to pray

about it. She said, “Oh I don’t pray, I am to uncom-

fortable to talk to God.” Now she is a grown woman,

and has become a prayer powerhouse! But when

she was young, in age and in the faith...this was

really hard for her. For some they find it’s easier to

talk about God than it is to go to God.

Matthew 6:33 (NKJV)

33But seek first the kingdom of God and His right-

eousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Question: “When things are hard, do you run first to

the phone or to the throne?”

WE MUST ADMIT WE DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO?

To begin with, prayer requires humility. We can’t go

to God in prayer without admitting we’re weak and

He’s strong. That we’re sinful and He’s holy. And

that, in light of His sovereignty, we know nothing.

Some of the most meaningful and effective prayers

I’ve ever prayed amounted to twelve small words.

“God, “I don’t know what to do?” But I’m trusting in

You.” The world calls us to flex our muscles and be

strong. But God says if you want to be powerful, first

admit you’re weak. We can spend a lot of effort

praying an eloquent prayer, but I believe the words

God finds most beautiful are simply these: “Help me,

God.”

GIVING IT TO GOD MEANS HANDS OFF!

Pause your life, and position yourself! Seek God and

bow before Him (this is a heart position, but if you

feel like getting on your knees or facedown, you can

do that, too). Humble yourself under His rightful au-

thority over your life. For God has bought you with a

great price. So use every part of your body to give

glory to God because he owns it. Acknowledge that

he’s God and you’re not. Admit your doubts, fears,

insecurities, and pride, and take a moment, to be

still. Faith stills our hearts but it moves us to action.

Faith not only moves us, but it motivates us to do

the impossible. And for some in those hard moments

that life throws at us, letting it go, giving it to God is

not easy. So many of my prayers, (especially pastor-

ing our church) sound like this, “Lord this is to much,

it’s too heavy for me, so I give it to you.” No matter

what kind of life issue you’re facing today, you can

give it to God and let it go. He is a good God, and our

lives are secure in His hands.
